Wine Talk Newsletter No 68

What we are drinking

This month we are salivating over a wine made from the Pineau d'Aunis grape variety. If you haven't heard of it you shouldn't be too worried. There are only a handful of vineyards devoted to this grape which is native to the region immediately north of the Loire Valley city of Tours.

It is a somewhat difficult grape to grow and not too many winemakers reveal its full glory. However we are lucky to import the wines of both Jean-Pierre Robinot (who makes profound, long-lasting reds from this grape) and Pascal Simonutti who makes lively, fresh, intriguing wines with lots of spice notes and which finish with fascinating herbal notes.

So we are drinking the Simonutti "On S'en Bat" 2015 which has only just arrived, but is drinking exceptionally well already.

The wine sells for $43 a bottle, and if you order 6 we will send it freight free to most cities in Australia and give you a 10% discount.

New arrivals from France

A latest shipment is very exciting. You will have received our recent newsletter describing the arrivals. All of the wines from Alice and Olivier de Moor have now sold out and the Cremant from Michel Gahier in the Jura has gone.

This week we have been showing wines from Jean-Paul Brun (the Morgon is excellent and the Le Ronsay has amazing structure and depth of flavour for an entry level wine), the Nouveau red from Milan which is vibrant and fresh, the Sauvignon and the Pineau d'Aunis (mentioned above) from Simonutti, a gorgeous red Burgundy and an Aligoté from Julien Altaber and we also are celebrating the return of the Perles de Mont Blanc sparkling wine which is a perennial favourite from Dominique Belluard. We also have  a few of his sought-after still wines.

There will be another newsletter out soon, but if you can't wait you can order any six wines from the new arrivals or any other wines that are available and we will send them freight free to most cities and give you a 10% discount.

Let us choose

If you are uncertain what to order, simply send us an email describing the style of wine you like and the amount you would like to spend then we will choose a pack of either 6 or 12 bottles for you and send you an invoice listing the wines we have chosen. If you don't like the sound of any of them then we will swap them over for something else.

Complete wine catalogue on-line

In response to many requests we now have all of our wines listed along with the recommended retail price on the Buy Wine page which you can get to by clicking on the "Buy Wine" menu option above.

Rent our lovely house in Provence

We have, for many years, owned a house which we bought with two friends from Sydney, in a small French village that is almost on the slopes of Mont Ventoux, north of Avignon. It is seven minutes drive from Beaume de Venise and about 20 minutes from Chateauneuf-du-Pape. You can find out a lot more about it by clicking on the link below:
